                      Maintain Your Smile in Indiana

A visit to our Valparaiso or St. John dental offices twice a year is the best way to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. We provide conservative preventive family dentistry care and restorative dentistry for patients of all ages. We take a special interest in treating your children and teaching them about the importance of proper oral hygiene.

At Creating Smiles, we use digital X-rays which reduce your exposure to radiation, air abrasion to remove tooth decay without drilling your teeth, and we complete thorough oral cancer screenings.

Your First Visit

We can schedule new patients typically within a week from the time they call! Most dental offices require at least four to six weeks to see new patients.

During your first visit, you will be greeted by our friendly front office staff for dental exam. We’ll then take X-rays of your mouth and examine your oral health condition. If you have not been to the dentist in a while, Dr. Kapers will examine your mouth and inform you about any dental services you need. We will always educate you about your dental needs before launching into any treatment.

Our dental hygienists use gentle techniques to clean and polish your teeth. Dental cleaning procedure consists of polish every tooth to make it harder for plaque and harmful acids to stick to the surface. Using an intra-oral camera, we can show you how cavities form and pinpoint areas inside your mouth to focus on while brushing and flossing.

Oral Cancer Screening

Following your dental cleaning Dr. Kapers will examine your mouth and complete a thorough oral cancer screening. He will examine your mouth, lips, gums, oral cavity, and throat for possible lesions, tumors, or irregularities.

Thousands of Americans are diagnosed with oral or throat cancer every year. If caught early, oral cancer is very treatable, but the 5-year survival rate is only about 50 percent. Patients who regularly use tobacco or drink alcohol in excess are 50 percent more likely to have oral cancer than those who use neither tobacco nor alcohol.

Our dental cleanings and exams can improve your oral health and overall health. We provide fluoride treatments for children and cavity-prone adult patients and work with every patient on their home oral care routine.

"You know regular dental visits are extremely important, we want to make sure everything is staying stable in your mouth and obviously your mouth is part of your body. If you take care of your mouth, the better chance of the rest of you being healthy and vice versa. If you let your oral health go, it can affect the rest of your body. So regular visits and regular cleanings are always important just to maintain your overall oral health and even your health in general. We do the necessary radiographs and full exams. The hygienist will see them first and go over the condition of their gums and their periodontal tissues and I really like to discuss with the patient what brought them in and what their goals are for dental treatment; if it’s just a checkup and cleaning and they don’t have any complaints or if they want to change the way their teeth look or whatever and I usually like to spend a good amount of time with them just discussing our findings at first then going over what some of the treatment options are to see really what they want to do and what they are able to do."
